A Stocky alternative for Shopify inventory planning

What's happening to Stocky

Shopify's published retirement date was August 31, 2026. That date has passed. See Shopify's Stocky retirement notice for the current guidance. Checked September 6, 2026.

Stocky was Shopify's own inventory app, free to merchants on Shopify POS Pro. Shopify has been winding it down in stages rather than all at once, which is part of why the ending has crept up on people.

• Mid-2025: min/max forecasting and inventory transfers were removed from the app.
• Earlier in 2026: Stocky was withdrawn from the Shopify App Store, so no new store can install it.
• August 31, 2026: per Shopify's help centre, the app is no longer available. It stops working, and the Stocky APIs stop responding.

Shopify's recommendation is to move to the inventory management features in the admin. That advice is right as far as it goes. The question worth asking is which half of your week Stocky was actually carrying.

What you actually lose

It helps to split Stocky into two jobs, because only one of them is being replaced.

Inventory operations: covered

Counting stock, moving it between locations, adjusting for breakage, recording a purchase order, getting a nudge when something is low. All of this now lives in the Shopify admin. If that is the extent of how you used Stocky, you may genuinely not need to replace it with anything.

Inventory planning: not covered

Working out how fast something is selling, projecting when it will run out, deciding the level at which you should reorder, sizing a safety cushion, holding supplier lead times, and turning all of that into an order of the right size at the right moment. None of this is coming back natively. Shopify has left this layer to apps on purpose.

This is the comparison worth having before you shop around. It is about capability, not brands.

Stocky capabilities above reflect Shopify's documentation for sales-based purchase order suggestions. Replinish reads inventory from Shopify. Receiving a purchase order in Replinish does not update Shopify inventory. Record stock receipts in Shopify too.

How to judge a replacement

There are a lot of apps in this category and most of them will show you a demo that looks convincing. Five questions cut through it.

1. Does it show you why? If a tool tells you to order 240 and cannot show you the sales rate, lead time, cushion, and stock on hand behind it, you cannot check it, so you will either follow it blindly or ignore it. Both are bad.
2. How long until it is useful? Anything that needs weeks of configuration before it produces a number will not survive contact with a real week. Your catalogue, stock, costs, and sales history should arrive from Shopify automatically.
3. Can you get your data back out? Ask before you sign, not after. If exporting is awkward, you are being locked in.
4. What is the contract? Check the monthly price and trial length for your SKU count. Replinish offers monthly plans with no annual commitment.
5. Does it match your size? Warehouse-network optimisation and ERP integration are real needs for large multi-channel brands, and expensive overkill for a store with a few hundred SKUs and one or two locations.

Where Replinish fits

Replinish does the planning half and nothing else. It reads your Shopify data, works out how fast each product sells, projects how long today's stock lasts, and tells you what to order and when. It never changes your catalogue, prices or orders. The only thing it can change is your stock, when you receive or correct a delivery, and only after you allow it.

Every recommendation opens into the four numbers it came from: the sales rate, the supplier's lead time, the safety cushion, and what you have on hand. You can change any of them and watch the answer move. That is the whole design philosophy, and it is aimed squarely at people who have been burned by a black box.

It is built for Shopify merchants who reorder from suppliers and have sales history to plan from. The forecasting page goes through the arithmetic properly if you want to see it before you install anything.

When Replinish is the wrong answer

Worth saying plainly, because a bad fit wastes your time as much as ours.

• You only used Stocky for stock counts and transfers. Use the Shopify admin. You do not need to pay for anything.
• You need warehouse or ERP-grade operations. Bin locations, wave picking, multi-channel allocation across marketplaces, landed-cost accounting. That is a different category of tool.
• You manufacture from raw materials. Replinish can handle a combined lead time, but full bill-of-materials planning is not here yet. If you assemble finished goods from components, check that gap first.
• Your store is brand new with almost no sales. The operational features work immediately, but forecasting needs sales history to be honest. Replinish will say so rather than invent a number, which is correct but may not be what you are paying for yet.

Moving your data across

Start with the records you have. Supplier lead times and incoming orders need checking even if your catalogue imports automatically.

1. Find your saved Stocky exports. Start with any products and purchase orders CSVs you already saved. If you still have access to Stocky, save the records you need before uninstalling. If access has ended, ask Shopify Support about your options. Replinish cannot recover inaccessible Stocky data.
2. Write down the three workflows you actually use. Most teams use a fraction of what Stocky offered. Note the handful of things you genuinely do each week, such as checking what's low, raising a purchase order, and receiving stock against it. Judge every replacement against that short list rather than against Stocky's full feature grid.
3. Install a replacement and let it read your store. Replinish's public listing is awaiting Shopify approval. Join the launch list to get the install link when it's available. After installation, your products and stock come from Shopify, along with available sales history. You don't need a Stocky export to start planning.
4. Import your Stocky CSVs if you have them. Upload the Stocky products and purchase orders exports. Rows are matched to your Shopify catalogue by SKU, which brings across supplier links, costs, lead times, and purchase order history. Anything that doesn't match a SKU is skipped and counted, so you can see exactly what didn't come over instead of guessing.
5. Fill in the lead times and check the costs. Confirm each supplier's lead time, minimum order quantity and case size. Check the costs imported from Shopify. Without Stocky exports, add supplier details from your own purchasing records.
6. Check your first reorder list against your records. Compare suggested quantities with recent supplier orders and stock on hand. Check incoming orders so you don't buy the same stock twice. Open a recommendation to review the sales rate and lead time behind it before sending a purchase order.
